Brewery: Goose Island
Style: Belgian Farmhouse Ale
Sofie has been a beer I’ve been meaning to get my hands on again and I was happy to have finally sat down to enjoy one over this past weekend. I wanted something light yet flavorful and this brew came through on both of those things for me.
As I poured this champagne colored ale into my cup a thin foamy head developed. After swirling it, the first sip I took held pretty true to the label on the bottle. The head dissipates rather quickly after that initial sip, leaving behind a nice lace around the edges of the cup. This Belgian Farmhouse Ale is one of the Vintage Ales created by Goose Island Beer Co. It is crisp and the bubbly texture is noticed at first taste. The orange peel and white pepper flavor comes out first giving a tart note to begin with. It fades smoothly and ends on a soft vanilla note.
This brew is light, refreshing, and I would even say a little fizzy. I was happy to find that the champagne-y taste I was getting from this beer was actually what Goose Island was going for. Overall I found that the flavors came together nicely and was happy with my beer selection for a chill Sunday night chatting with friends over some dinner. If you’re looking for a heavier beer with bold flavor this is not what you should be sipping on tonight but if you have a Sofie sitting in your fridge it should definitely be held onto. Wait for a night that you’re looking for something lighter so you can enjoy this beer to its full potential. Relax; you’ve got time. We’ll all get through our beer collections eventually, what did you drink this weekend?
